Travis Milton, Flatwork and Framing, Maui
Travis Milton was recommended to us by 3D Builders for the flatwork (concrete work) for our custom home in Maui.
Mr. Milton poured two long and challenging driveways (one driveway was the world's steepest), and extensive walkways with elaborate embossed Hawaiian leaves.
Travis quickly proved to be an extremely capable and hard-working subcontractor.
Travis was exceptionally good at innovative low cost approaches to complex design requirements.
He draws from a broad background in construction and is well versed in many building disciplines.
Travis has great integrity and will insist on re-doing a project if it is not correct.
Once the concrete work and the house were complete, we turned our attention to building a barn, which is a two story workshop, second office, storage area, with an attached greenhouse.
When 3D Builders failed to deliver the barn at the price previously promised, we turned to Travis for foundation work and framing.
Travis was reluctant to take work away from 3D Builders, but we were very clear that we were at an impasse with 3D Builders and not willing to exceed our budget on the barn.
Travis talked with the president of 3D Builders and began work on our barn and greenhouse with 3D Builders' blessing.
Travis enlisted the help of John Weiland for framing and finish work.
John proved to be an extraordinary framer who was key to the success of the barn.
The plans called for 2x6 construction on 24-inch centers, but Travis and John framed using 2x6s on 16-inch centers.
The floor joists and hold-downs were also over-built.
The foundation work went well, which led to framing, and then to roofing.
For work that Travis and John didn't do, such as painting and gutters, they found competent subcontractors and negotiated good rates.
From the time the foundation was poured, until the final inspection on the barn was only 111 days, and under our budget.
With the cost savings, we paid Travis and John to build workbenches and install plywood on the interior.
We found Travis to be intelligent, pragmatic, professional, and showed the highest degree of integrity.
We are confident you would be blessed to have him help you with your project.
